Captain Earth Review — C

Two boys wave their dicks livlastars around and save the world.

I’ll admit it. I love Bones mecha shows. I even liked Eureka Seven AO, which everyone else despised. Rahxephon was the first mecha show I ever watched, and it was awesome. So much better than Evangelion.

But I digress. The thing is, Captain Earth… just isn’t all that good. It does have some cool ideas. Like the bad Engrish, the Shakespeare BS, the main characters and their relationships with each other and especially their relationships with their parent figures.

Another cool thing about this show is the transformation sequence. I approve.

But much of this show is just average. The fighting isn’t interesting, the character background isn’t that interesting (especially the alien girl), and the romance sucks.

The one thing that’s especially awful is the villains. They and their motivations make no sense. Particularly the organization called “Salty Dog”. Even their name is pathetic… Anyway, they want to have humanity survive, by sending spaceships to other planets. And to do so, they need the world to be destroyed first. Yes, they are actively working towards destroying the Earth so that humanity can survive. It makes no sense. The planetary gears I get. They want to eat. I can accept that. The computer… well, he’s a computer, I guess he can think dumb computer things if he wants to. But the humans in Salty Dog and their motivations make no sense.

It can also be pretty heavy handed and preachy…

  • Storytelling – C – Meh…pretty mediocre.
  • Voice – C – Nothing too unique.
  • Characters – C – I like the adults, and the planetary gears… but the other villains really suck, and the main characters aren’t that interesting.
  • Attention Grab – C – Well, I did finish it.
  • Production – B – Looks decent.
  • Overall – C

Recommendations – Rahxephon, Eureka Seven, Star Driver

  1. Oh come on. Aren’t you being too generous? Even for hardcore mecha fans this show cannot be anything above ‘awful and disappointing’. I found it barely watchable anyway.

  2. i have a brand new anime or manga featuring a 81 or 88 or ninety year old man named Adam lee he is dying from cancer in a hospital in Tokyo Japan one day he dies his family comes to take his body to be cremated later we see that Adam gets reincarnated as a newborn prince in a different world called Elysium his new father is emperor Constantine Kaiser and his new mother is named Theodora Kaiser he is given the new name of Johannes the world of Elysium is full of magic monsters and all sorts of things from works of fiction .
