So, this isn’t the most popular show. But I’m going to go ahead and blog it anyway. The reason? The main character is basically me.
Typically I can’t identify well with most anime characters. They are either cute little girls or gutless perverts. But this guy is different.
He’s about my age, he’s a researcher making space robots, and most importantly, he’s recently been transported from the blissful world of research into the harsh reality of management. Like him, a month ago I was forced to take this transition as well (needless to say, against my will). It isn’t quite as bad as him where some asshole is out to destroy his organization. But my team’s boss quit. Now I am the boss. It sucks. I just want to do research but now I have to tell people what to do, to negotiate with other teams, to attend all these meetings, etc., etc.
This is what I’ve looked like for the past month while I try to figure out what the fuck I’m doing. This is made all the harder by the fact that I couldn’t care less about 80% of the project.
Anyway, I love this show’s portrayal of his struggles in management. Having to fill out accounting paperwork, doing all these tricks to navigate the bureaucracy, all the while passionately attempting to acquire the funding to do the research he wants to do. (Sadly I work for a governmental organization and if I tried to pocket an occasional $20 million here and there… yeah… people would notice…)
I also love its portrayal of corporate politics. How can people live as cogs in such massive heartless organizations? I feel like this is one of, if not the, defining ethical question of our age.

Finally, I’m shipping these two. Mainly because it would be hilarious.
I feel you, too, well not exactly.
Managing people is a challenge, personally I quite like it when I’m in charge. But it’s sucks when you’re dealing with the people who don’t care and doesn’t evn try to understand about what and why you’re doing.

I feel you on the being forced to take on more responsibility. In order to cement my position in my workplace from future ‘bumping’ (ie. workplace survivor), I had to take a bunch of exams in order to gain my license and to take a more ‘invested’ position in my workplace. Normally, I wouldn’t care too much about this sort of thing, however one of the responsibilities of this position is being legally liable (ie. people can sue me if I screw up badly enough).
Oh gosh. Would *not* want to be in that position.
But I personally think that it’s great that you have found an anime character who truly speaks to you. Not an easy thing to find in most modern anime…
Ironically, it’s the fact that this show is trying to resemble my real life that’s causing me to be even harsher to this. Workplace environments are by default, a hellhole, so just saying it sucks isn’t enough to find these characters interesting. Not to mention, these anime cliches and the lack of story aren’t mixing well with the atmosphere it wants to portray. Where’s the ultimate goal of owning your own rocket ship, Classroom Crisis?
