Demi-chan wa Kataritai — First Impressions

Attempts are made at practicing basic empathy towards monster girls.

It wasn’t terrible, it was pretty well made actually, but…

It’s kind of creepy?

How this old guy wants to interview all these little girls?

You’d think he could do some basic research and read a book or something first.

Just imagine if they weren’t monster girls, but they were children with disabilities.

Then think of how their classmates and their teacher treat them. Sort of like exhibits in a museum.

I don’t know, maybe I’m overly sensitive, but I feel like this is not the best way to treat monster girls.

The yuri ships are good though. I can fully support that.

  1. I didn’t get much that feel, while there are parallels with disability in a way it’s more akin to them belonging to a different culture, they seem to live that difference in a rather natural way. And I suppose if this guy wants to write a thesis about the subject it’s a relatively recent phenomenon and there’s not much literature yet. It’s not necessarily too believable given the modern setting but with that premise it sort of makes sense. Though that aspect was definitely rushed and basically used as a pretext to set up the situation.

    1. They seem to mostly share the human culture though. They go to school with the humans and stuff.

But yeah, it is basically just a pretext and I’m reading too much into it.

  2. Just finished watching the first episode. Personally, I didn’t get much of a condescending feel from the show. Seeing it kinda reminded me of all those qualitative studies I read back in university regarding people with health complications. I also find that although the set-up seems a bit forced; the lack of information on demis might imply that because they are such a small minority, they might be overlooked by bigger research firms.

    1. Yeah, but the guy is a high school teacher, not a researcher. He’s turning his students into a science experiment. This “study” would not pass an IRB.

But yeah, it’s mostly just a forced setup which the rest of the show doesn’t seem to be taking particularly seriously.
