Guilty Crown 18 — She’s Always a Woman to Me (WITH MUSIC!)

For this week’s post, I’ve brought in a guest musician: EphemeralDreamer! Be sure to check out his blog and follow him on Twitter! EphemeralDreamer is deaf and uses hearing aids, which makes his musicianship all the more remarkable. (It also makes him a cyborg, which is awesome.)

This week’s song is a rendition of Billy Joel’s “She’s Always a Woman to Me.” You can blame any timing problems on EphemeralDreamer’s agent (me). Enjoy!

She’s Always a Woman to Me (EphemeralDreamer)

She can kill with a sword,
She can wound with a tap.
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies

And she always reveals what you don’t need to see.
She cries like a child,
But she’s always a woman to me.

She can lead you to war,
She can kill or betray you.
She can fawn over you
But you’ll never believe it.
And she’ll take what you give her, as long as it’s free.
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she’s always a woman to me.

CHORUS:
Oh–she takes care of her “friends”.
She can turn to crystal

Or become Wolverine.
Oh–and she never speaks out
And she always gives in
She just follows my lead.

And she’ll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden.
Then she’ll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you’re bleedin’.
But she’ll bring out the best
And the worst you can be.
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she’s always a woman to me.

CHORUS

She is frequently kind
But she’s usually cruel.
She can destroy robots,

Or try to rape you.
And she can’t be convicted
She’s a famous idol.
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she’s always a woman to me

Further Thoughts

How terrible this episode was mostly speaks for itself. I’ll just mention a few things.

In terms of romance, all I can say is that they deserve each other. They’re even in the number of attempted rapes now, but hey, who’s counting?

My all time most despised despised line in all of anime. Why do show many shows say this, and seem to find it deep and meaningful? It would be ridiculous even if Inori hadn’t just transformed into a crystal wolf for no apparent reason.

Good job, translators! I think this line really captured the subtlety and depth of the moment.

And fitting introspective lyrics for Inori’s song. Why would anyone want to hurt her or Shoe?!!! It doesn’t make any sense. She just tried to murder someone, and he only ran a dictatorship so they could survive. Life is just so unfair. Why are these plebeians instigating class warfare against the jahb creators?

Finally, I have someone else lined up for next week (who? it’s a surprise!), but if you want to sing a song, let me know!

  1. Though I tend to disagree with your more negative views of Guilty Crown…I have to admit that this is pretty damn funny, and I laugh every single time you refer to him as “Shoe”…

    1. Haha, referring to him as “Shoe” this time was actually because of a typo. 🙂 I guess it’s my subconscious breaking through to the surface.

        1. I’m certainly getting some enjoyment out of it, but it’s not because I *like* the show.

I don’t think you’re the only one enjoying it though. Apparently it’s having great DVD sales in Japan.

          1. It’s gotten quite epic lately, and I think the pre-emptive expectations (thinking of it as the “new Code Geass” going in) hurts Guilty Crown’s general ratings among the veteran and hard-core fans. I’ll admit the midway was lacking in areas such as character point, plot movement, logic, etc….but it seems to be ending on a high note

  2. This is the only show that I’m commenting that I don’t even have a clue on what’s going on.

Nice job Effie-chan~. The song is already over but I’m still laughing.

  3. How did I miss so many of these posts?! I hate that I missed this one the first time around because “She’s Always a Woman” is one of my favorite songs and Ephemeral Dreamer is an awesome guy. Oh, the revised lyrics were very cool, too. 😉
