Things were starting to get stale with everyone’s relationship stalling, so they brought in Emi’s coworker to spice things up. She acts as a viewer surrogate, in that she does exactly what the viewers want to do: attempt to start an epic showdown between Emi and kimono girl, hook up Maou and Emi, glomp Chiho, and marry Ashiya.
She’s making excellent progress on the Ashiya front. So many flags being triggered. All her plans regarding Maou have seemingly backfired, but I suspect there is a deeper level of play afoot in that she realizes that to free up Maou for Emi she will first need to become a homewrecker and cause a divide between Maou and his wife. True friendship.
The showdown between the fast food joints was a bit of a disappointment for me. Maou is being way too reasonable here. Plus if putting up a tree actually works that is just sad. I was hoping the street would become a literal war zone. It does seem given kimono girl’s reaction at the end of the episode that some sort of magic is involved, however.
Further Thoughts
Ashiya’s story… wow. Can’t believe everyone managed to keep a straight face while he told that level of a whopper. I guess he earned his place as Maou’s top general after all.
Poor James. Definitely a creep though. Spoiler: you can eat the chicken’s bones because it’s actually Meowth meat. The other white meat.

The fanfiction writes itself!
Yep, way too easy.
If their relationships are a burger and Emi’s coworker is a spice I think we need more pepper in Maou-sama’s boring slice of life
Or if Maou is the meat and Emi is the bun, we need Ashiya to be the cheese… wait what are we talking about
I love how Rika (Emi’s coworker) reacted when Ashiya first placed himself next to her at Sentucky’s! Rika also has a good fashion sense, perhaps even too elegant for eating out at such a place. I hope she ends up marrying Suzuno (kimono girl), who looks out of place at Sentucky’s, as well.
Hm, those two would go well together, if I weren’t already busy shipping Rika with Ashiya. 🙁 Her reaction was indeed great when he sat next to her…
