Schwarzesmarken Review — C

The East German military fights monsters and revolts against the Stasi.

It wasn’t bad, but also not that good. I think the main problem was the characters. It didn’t bring me to particularly care about any of them. I kind of liked the propaganda girl… or at least the idea of the propaganda girl… but as with the other characters, it felt like she was missing something. Kind of like they were all just cogs in a machine, not people. It’s hard to explain.

I did enjoy this more than the original Muv Luv. Probably by virtue of it being shorter. But I felt like they reduced the dumb harem crap, the dumb tragic sob stories, and all the fighting of monsters. They still had the monsters, but it was more of a setting the stakes things. Most of the conflict was a human affair.

For once, Imouto was best girl.
