Sokyuu no Fafner Dead Aggressor: Exodus — First Impressions

I can’t for the life of me believe this got a sequel. It’s been over ten years! And from what I recall, it’s not like it needed a sequel. Or was particularly successful in the first place.

I would imagine I’m one of the few people who has actually watched the original series. And I can’t remember a thing about it! I have no idea who any of these people are. I can’t imagine I’m alone in this. The first episode did a good job at refreshing my memory on the setting, but I’m still completely lost when it comes to who all the characters are. I’m sure the creators must realize this though so I’m not too concerned.

As for the episode itself, it’s looking pretty good. It’s using the Majestic Prince character design style (sort of), the same as the original Fafner, which I’m not a big fan of. They also really like to have the camera back up and move around the scene for some reason. There seems to be a bunch going on in the character relationships which I didn’t really follow, and the central conflict of robots kicking alien butt is always something I’m down for. They succeeded at establishing the bleakness of the future of humanity through that scene in Hawaii, but I doubt how well it fits in with the peaceful island life. Also I found it amusing how they had the school girls running around in bloomers and right after the grandma was talking about defending and preserving their Japanese culture.
