The World God Only Knows: Goddess Arc — First Impressions

In news that will surprise no one, TWGOK anime is still crap. It’s hard to believe the adaptation could take such a great manga and make it so dull and lifeless. For some of the reasons why, see my review of the previous season.

The biggest problem, I think, is that the characterizations are so horribly off. In the manga, Keima was hilarious with how little he cared for humans but how great he was at seducing them using his dating game knowledge. The creators of the show seem to have forgotten that this aspect was supposed to be funny. Also his voice actor doesn’t fit him at all.

  1. More to the point how does one combine 60 chapters in ten minutes and now try to put 75 chapters into 12 episodes.

  2. I absolutely loved the first two seasons of the anime when I watched it, but now that I’ve actually read the manga I can’t help but agree with all your criticisms as I watch this first episode of Megami-hen. I don’t even like the voice acting anymore, which is weird since that’s how I was first exposed to the characters in the first place.

    1. I imagine I also would have reacted to this anime more positively had I not read the manga first. But having seen what the manga did so successfully and how miserably the adaptation has failed to communicate that, it is hard to find anything nice to say about the show.
