Wow guys I’m so excited about Zetsuen no Tempest! It’s a story about the deep friendship between a weak, kind boy and a harsh, indifferent boy with amazing powers. I really hope they can set aside their differences and become best friends.
Unfortunately, the weak boy has a girlfriend who seeks to undermine his true love! What a bitch, I hope she turns into a giant rainbow butterfly and explodes.
Also, some mysterious disease is killing off the townspeople by transmorgifying their skin into something inhuman. But they probably deserve it, so whatever. Oh, and the government is suppressing the truth! No one really cares about the truth anyway though so hey, whatever.
But if you didn’t know how serious this show’s message was before, well, after all the breathtaking acting and the quotations from Hamlet, you will. This is some deep stuff here. This might come as a scandalous shock to my conservative readers, but… I think these guys might be gay. I suspected it before, but now that they’ve quoted from Hamlet… I’m sure of it. Definitely gay. It’s fabulous.
Oh yeah, and those butterflies! Some crazy stuff! I wonder what all this talk is about this creature that those evil mages are trying to awaken…?
In short, I have to congratulate Bones. Only they, the creators of Fullmetal Alchemist, Rahxephon and Eureka Seven, have the guts to come up with an anime as original and creative as Zetsuen no Tempest. This is the beginning of a new chapter in anime history!

That’s not a fiar critique. Bones may have fucked this one up, and they may be failing pretty hard lately, but Lack of originality has rarely been Bones’s problem

Don’t get me wrong, I actually kind of liked the first episode! But I quite liked the first episode of No. 6 too… It’s just quite remarkable how similar these shows are starting off.
I really want to like this series but I have to agree to most of what you write. And I dropped No. 6 after ep. 2! Too bad the main guy’s sister is already dead in ep. 1, she was the best character imo. Only thing I really liked was the BGM but I can as well downl… eh, purchase it w/o watching the series.
Same here, I actually did like the first episode. But all the similarities to No. 6 give me pause. I loved the first episode of No. 6 as well, but we both know how that turned out…

I actually avoided this show at first cause i thought it would be more homolust, but after watching the first couple episodes, and reading some of the manga, it’s actually pretty good. And not gay. Apparently this is a relatively popular manga in japan.
I wouldn’t mind if it was gay. Just the random quotes from Shakespeare and the waste of the sci-fi premise are what made me hate No. 6. Good to know it turns out well though, I will give the second episode a chance.
