Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge Review — B

Our hero tortures cute little girls half to death with his scissors that he inherited from a serial killer.

I love Crime Edge. Does that make me a terrible person? Probably. But I’m pretty sure the only person I’m fooling at this point is myself.

Crime Edge is weird. It has a bunch of people trying to kill each other with ridiculous weapons such as scissors, syringes, whips and nooses. All of the characters are, for the most part, completely insane. They have lots of unusual fetishes too, such as cutting hair, getting strangled, licking, nibbling on ears, etc., etc.

A few choice moments to give you an idea. This one guy looks like he’s on his deathbed. His last words: “The truth is… I lied. Your hairs aren’t split at all.” Another brilliant quote: “If you didn’t have knives or a kill count, you’d be a pretty nice little girl.”

All this is presented with complete seriousness. The show also uses this cutesy art style which contrasts nicely with the show’s content. And the two lead characters are absurdly innocent despite everything they undergo.

Crime Edge was one of my favorite series this season (although there wasn’t much competition). It’s not going to be for everyone, however.

  • Storytelling – B – Really weird.
  • Voice – A – Brutality and weird fetishes contrasted with the innocence of the characters.
  • Characters – B – Completely ridiculous.
  • Attention Grab – B – Keeps your interest with thoughts of “I can’t believe they did that.”
  • Production – B – Nothing remarkable, but I do like the cutesy art style and how it contrasts with the show’s content.
  • Overall – B

  1. The anime made a fatal mistake which makes me lower my score, though. The fight between Kiri and the magic book guy was really a chore to sit through. I am pretty sure I would die very quickly if I got choked like that, but dude, the same thing went over and over for twenty minutes:
    -Kiri got strangled
    -Kiri struggled
-Kiri attempted to stab him with his scissors
    -He failed
    rinse and repeat

    1. Good point. That fight was really boring. It was kind of cool when he died though how that only took a split second although the rest of the fight took so long.

Also I was really disappointed that he didn’t end up dying from his own weapon…

  2. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. This is literally the worst anime I have ever watched. It’s the only show I’ve ever given a 1/10.

In case you still had any doubts, yes, you are a terrible person.

    1. You know… It’s okay to hate a show and as much as I loved the show too (Using Draggle’s way of grading I’d give it a B+) you may be right. But you don’t have to go and say things like that. Kinda shows how ignorant you truly are.

Don’t worry Draggle. I don’t think you are a terrible person even if I don’t agree with some of your reviews.

      1. No emotionally stable human being is going to be offended by playful banter in a comments section.

“Does that make me a terrible person? Probably. But I’m pretty sure the only person I’m fooling at this point is myself.”

Even Draggle admitted that the show had some serious issues.

“It’s okay to hate a show and as much as I loved the show too you may be right. But you don’t have to go and say things like that. Kinda shows how ignorant you truly are.”

You simultaneously claim that I’m ignorant while actively ignoring what you believe might be the truth.

    2. Ehhh the worst anime you’ve ever watched?!!! Clearly I need to expand your horizons! Crime Edge is pretty tame compared to some others I’ve seen!

      1. I know there’s far worse out there, but I’ve done pretty well so far to avoid the landmines. Crime Edge started out just well enough to draw me in before it stabbed me in the back and threw my lifeless corpse in the river.
