A boy goes to agricultural school and learns what farming is like.
This is a solid show. It’s funny. It has quirky and interesting characters. It has tearful moments and moments of fright. It even makes you genuinely interested in farming. Speaking on behalf of myself at least, that last item is quite the accomplishment.
This show will draw many comparisons to Moyashimon, since they both take place at an agricultural school. Whereas Moyashimon relies on absurdities (talking microbes) and “anime humor” (maids and traps, etc.) for its humor, Gin no Saji doesn’t need this. It’s a much more down to earth show because of this, and I at least learned more from it. (Come on, nobody actually learned anything from those talking microbes at the end of each episode).

- Voice – B – Down to earth.
- Characters – B – Some are a bit goofy with a single weird trait, but it does make them memorable. And there are a lot of characters.
- Attention Grab – B – Keeping my interest in farming is qutie the accomplishment.

Recommendations – Moyashimon, Spice and Wolf
This is definitely one of my favorite last season. It was able to make me review the way I spend my life. Such show is rare. I can use my finger to count them, among all anime I have watched. Definitely recommended.
Interesting. It didn’t make me think about how I spent my life at all. Maybe because I’m past that stage of my life now…
I suck at being eloquent. Just going to say i agree with the author -> made me interested in this agricultural school.
This was one of my favourites, last season, too! For about a month I almost quit watching anime for lack of time, but Silver Spoon was the series which kept my attention for every episode. It was interesting and very relaxing at the same time.
The series often focusses the harsh sides of training and being a farmer, like getting up early every day and working long hours w/o becoming rich. This background makes mundane incidents like baking pizza together or escaping from school for a few hours look like great fun. And I believe the students actually experience their school life as fun!
By far my favourite scene was the ending of episode 3 when the soothing voice of the little headmaster and the ED blend together.
Yeah, the school life here actually looks pretty fun. If “healing” anime were more like this maybe I could actually get behind them.
