I am Trash

So, you may have noticed that I haven’t updated lately. That’s because I’ve been reading web novels. (Ok, fine, it’s actually just because I’m lazy.)

I really got into this one novel. It’s called Mushoku Tensei. I read all 25 volumes in a week.

And this novel is complete trash. It’s a horribly written piece of crap, and the translation is even worse. It’s barely at the point of being human language.

The substance of the novel is even worse. Some loser hikikomori reincarnates in a parallel universe with magic. His mind is 39 years old but his body is a baby. He goes on to molest a bunch of women. Including three year old girls. And it all goes downhill from there. He becomes the most powerful person in the world, marries three women (a childhood friend cross-dresser, a loli sensei elf, and a tsundere), and has multiple other women falling in love with him (including imouto maid and imouto student council president). It’s filled with unabashed pedophilia. It’s much more blatant wish fulfillment than Sword Art Online.

And I loved it. Couldn’t stop reading.

I am trash.

  1. “Web novels, where Light Novels are born, and the books that are so bad they can’t even make it to Light Novel remain. Literature’s barren Purgatory, and where Draggle’s mind now wanders, forever lost.”

  2. Love this post in relation with the fact that youre a nasa scientist.

Really don’t know how you can handle that kind of content though, must necessitate some special training I haven’t herd of.

    1. Yeah, it’s called speed reading. I’m pretty good at it. I read all the books but I probably only read half of the words.

  3. Yes.
    Yes.
    Yes.

You have no idea how much I relate to this.

I read the entirety of it in five days, less than a month ago. I have many regrets, but reading Mushoku Tensei is not (yet) one of them.

That being said, I found it somewhat ironic that despite the story’s obvious message/moral of “WORK HARD WITH VIGOUR SO THAT YOU WILL NOT REGRET”, both Roxy and Sylphiette do basically nothing in the later end of the story. Even after training and studying for years on end, neither can do much in the face of overwhelming power that comes with… being born from the right family/race. With the release of the information that Rudeus’ magic power may be related to a factor of Laplace, that moral becomes even more laughable, comparable to Mahouka.

Speaking of Mahouka, here’s a spoiler: in the sixteenth volume, the two siblings get engaged. Lovely, yes?

Still, I can’t deny that I loved Mushoku Tensei despite its flaws, perhaps even because of them, and I am almost certainly going to suffer in the afterlife (provided it exists and judgement is handed down) as a result.

      1. Apparently so. They’re pushed to marry by their aunt who somehow holds power over Godsuya, who can set off nuclear-level detonations at will.
I think it says somewhere that though Tatsuya only sees Miyuki as a sister, he would try to love her as a woman.

How scandalous. Even after the revelation of their engagement, some other members of the harem fantasize about getting him to cheat with them.

        What a wonderful story.

  4. I have just tried to read a it a little, but after a chapter or so, I simply feel hatred for the author and his views about stuff and don’t feel like going on.

  5. Here’s a reading suggestion that might take you a week or two (took me a bit more than one): Worm. In a way, it’s fairly similar to Mushoku Tensei, in that it chronicles the rise, peak, and fall of the main character. In contrast to Mushoku Tensei however, it’s very well-written and is one of the most American things I’ve read in months.
    Here’s a link.

There are 31 arcs consisting of approximately 1.7 million words. I’m not sure how many chapters there are in that, because each arc varies from somewhere around five to fourteen chapters or so, usually somewhere in the middle.

  6. OMG. I can’t you believe you read all of this. I read like 10 or 11 volumes in basically one sitting, but after his first childhood friend marriage, I gave up. I couldn’t. I was raging too hard at his domestic life (and the wrong ship winning though I know all the ships win in this thing).

I did really enjoy the adventure bits. Ruijerd Supardia is the best character. I refuse to believe otherwise.

  7. HOW COULD I MISS THIS BEING POSTED

    YOU ARE SUCH GARBAGE

    INDESCRIBABLE GARBAGE

THERE IS NO REDEMPTION FOR YOU

TURN TOWARDS GOD, ALLAH, YAHWEH, WHATEVER, BECAUSE THERE MAY BE TIME TO SAVE YOUR SOUL YET IF YOU QUIT IMMEDIATELY, BUT IF YOU CONTINUE DOWN THIS PATH YOU WILL SPEND THE REST OF ETERNITY IN THE TENTH CIRCLE OF HELL. I KNOW THERE ARE ONLY NINE CIRCLES, BUT A NEW ONE WILL BE ESTABLISHED FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

  8. Necroposting time: I tried reading the first volume and couldn’t. Like, he just kept going on and on about the mechanics of the world and breaking them and he was a 7 year old adventurer and I started skimming and couldn’t do it. Perhaps I had a bad translation.

Naturally it’s getting an anime and the LNs are coming over.
