Kokoro Connect 10 — A Brief Summary of Paul’s Letter to the Romans

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. — Romans 4:23

Inaba is a worthless failure. But she has the courage to confess this and to recognize her enormous faults. She recognizes the power sin has over her, which is the first step to exorcising it. Confession is an essential component in the life of the church.

Inaba isn’t as awful as she thinks she is.

But that’s not the point.

Inaba is accepted and loved despite how broken she is. This is what Paul calls grace. Through her confession, Inaba is empowered to recognize the grace Iori has given her.

According to Paul, it is grace which defeats the powers of sin and death.

Where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. — Romans 5:20-21

Through grace, Iori empowers Inaba to abandon her pride and aloofness; to cast out her fear and to fully join her community. Inaba recognizes that she is not alone.

We end with Iori’s summary of the gospel.

Actually, no, let’s end with Inaba drinking some blood. Seems like next week Heartseed is going to turn everyone into vampires. That should lead to some interesting relationships!  Er, no, scratch that, I mean next week, everyone will join in the feast of communion!
