Aldnoah Zero 14 — Slaine Still Sucks

Now Slaine has Newtype powers. Next thing we know he’s going to be doing dropkicks across the room…

Part of the reason I hate Slaine so much is, he’s kind of smart. But he’s smart with the small things and completely misses the big picture. He can understand how the Aldnoah create a society where the powerful control all, and compassionate enough to understand why that’s a problem and seek to change it. Even though the people he’s helping utterly despise him. But, to solve this problem, Slaine is happy to go to war with Earth, killing and displacing countless more people than even live on Mars in the first place. He can see the root of the problem on Mars, but is utterly blind to the fact that his “solution” is far worse.

Similar thing with the princess. He’s “in love” with the princess and whatnot, but he has no respect for her. He imprisons her, both literally and figuratively, and decides for her what is best for her, even if it actively goes against everything she believes in. He doesn’t respect her at all.

Which is why it’s interesting when the new princess comes in. Her stated goal is to steal everything that’s precious to her sister. But she doesn’t seem to know her sister well at all. If she were to steal Slaine from Asseylum, Asseylum would merely be happy for her. Same with her position as princess. I doubt, when it comes down to it, whether Asseylum really gives that big a fuck. If her sister did a good job at it, she’d be “eh, good luck!” Her personality doesn’t really allow this kind of vengeance scheme to succeed.

This scene with Inko was hilarious. Inaho gained his robot geass superpowers but still is completely incompetent when it comes to interacting with people.

Also INAHO’S ROBOT WINKED. Next thing you know it’s going to be blushing!!!

My thoughts on the new princess:

  1. He can see the root of the problem on Mars, but is utterly blind to the fact that his “solution” is far worse.

I can only hope you hated Kiritsugu with the same force as you hate Slaine.

He imprisons her, both literally and figuratively

I wonder whether you actually watch the show or read summaries on someone’s blog. The princess is in coma. She has to be kept on life support in the tank. ‘Releasing’ her would be a certain death for her. I wonder whether you’re okay with ‘assisted suicide’ in the real life.

I think all the jokes pushed in this show are really unfunny. Unwitting teasing somebody about their weight. Hahaha. I can’t contain my laughter. Only boob-grabing is more pathetic. Then we have this captain who keeps on recycling this one joke about dating. Either she thinks she is witty (she isn’t) or she has issues and should get counselling.

I hoped for some more politics and character interaction in S2, but I guess it will be the same old stuff with ‘villains of the week’ and fights. The new princess is so much better than the old one.

    1. I can only hope you hated Kiritsugu with the same force as you hate Slaine.

Kiritsigu is stupid I don’t really hate him.

The princess is in coma. She has to be kept on life support in the tank.

Then steal the tank? Or help the tank have a change of owners? She’s basically a prisoner, you think they’ll just let her go when she wakes up?

The new princess is so much better than the old one.

Wow, we agree on something! 🙂

      1. Then steal the tank? Or help the tank have a change of owners? She’s basically a prisoner, you think they’ll just let her go when she wakes up?

How the hell would you know what happens when she wakes up? Are you a writer of this show? I think your hatred for Slaine is blinding you to the point of making things up. Slaine cannot easily transport the princess since her life support system is too bulky to move around and the action would not go unnoticed. Saazbaum doesn’t care for Asshime’s life and if he or his people notice something fishy he will act accordingly. Plus there is no chance of Slaine escaping anywhere with the princess without endangering her life.

  2. He isn’t imprisoning the princess. She’s in a coma. They discuss when she’s going to wake up in the episode itself, man. And he never even implied he knows what’s best for the princess. If he did not work with Saazbaum, the guy would have no reason to keep Asseylum alive anyway with her sister around.

    1. When she wakes up they’ll just let her go and tell everyone what they’ve done? She’s a prisoner.

He claims he’s doing all this because he loves the princess…

  3. Two thoughts:

    1) using a cybernetic EYE to tell fake speech patterns is as stupid as it gets. Had it been a cybernetic ear… as it is it can only act as a sort of surgically implanted Google Glass, and honestly, anything that eye can do, a computer should be able to do better, so why did only Inaho run this kind of analysis…?

    2) and of course on the same vein, Y U NO HAVE TARGETING COMPUTERS on your Kataphracts, Terrans? You know, with the messed up gravitational field and all (I’d say that’s officially the meaning of “wind”), having something to compensate the aim like, I don’t know, that bionic eye does for the only competent pilot you’ve ever had… yeah, that would be pretty rad.

    1. On that note, if only Inaho can active the Aldnoah drives for the Terran side, then shouldn’t the Terrans be zealously protecting him in a secret underground bunker? If he dies, he takes with him any chance of using any captured technology, which is why they shouldn’t let him do banzai charges with the rest of the grunts.

      1. Good point. That’s certainly what I would do if I were in command, not make him fight in the frontlines. But then again Inaho is also apparently the only capable pilot they have.

    2. 1) Why not put microphones in his cybernetic eye? I don’t know lol.

      2) Same haha. If they gave their robots as much functionality as Inaho’s eye perhaps they’d stand a chance in this war…

  4. This is totally Code Geass all over again.
Not only we have wheel chair bound sister, we also have a guy with a precognitive ability, to see several seconds to the future.
We are still missing a guy with mind control ability, though.
It doesn’t matter in the long run, Inaho shall beat them all using the power of science, ha ha ha.

    1. Yep it’s great! The princess can change bodies, maybe someone else will come along with mind control powers. I don’t see why not!

  5. I can’t wait for the moment where Lemrina heard about the relatinoship between Inaho and Asseylum and try to NTR Inaho too. AND if she try to use her power as princess to plan to kill Asseylum in the future, Inaho and Slaine will have common goal to fight for – save the princess. Maybe that is what we should interpret from last scene in the opening.

Eddelrittuo, one of the person who is closet to Asseylum, seems to agree with Slaine’s method and gladly tell him everything she knows about the Earth-side. Good for you,Slaine. At least there is someone to help you apologize to Asseylum when she wakes up. (I think this ep. shows that Slaine is aware that what he is doing won’t please Asseylum.)

    1. Omg if Lemrina tries to NTR Inaho too that will be AMAZING. CAN’T WAIT! If she picks a fight with Slaine and Slaine sides with Inaho I may have to root for the villain just because I hate Slaine so much.

Yeah, Eddelrittuo is the one part of this I can’t figure out. Why in the world would she agree to all this? That makes me suspect there’s more to Slaine’s plan then we’re aware of… Or maybe she’s just an idiot…

      1. After drawing all the hate of the world to him, Slaine’s going to let himself be killed so that he can finally end the feud between Earth and VERS… oh wait, wrong show.

  6. Slaine is doing everything he does with the full knowledge that the Terrans he’s slaughtering literally did nothing wrong. He’s fighting an imperialistic war that he knows was started on a completely fabricated premise. Maybe I need to go back and watch last season’s finale to remember how Saazbaum won him over, because while the Martians had problems the Terrans seemed to be doing just fine until the Martians started nuking their cities and subjugating the survivors.
