This episode goes straight to the heart of what I was saying last week— the students are not alone. It’s not just that they have each other, either. They have the entire community to lean on, but they are led to believe they have to solve everything by themselves. Continue reading Kokoro Connect 08 — Living in Community

Kokoro Connect 07 — Sin, the Church and Judgement
The club members are set free to unleash their wildest desires, and what they do? Sleep in and yell out embarrassing things. I love how down to earth this show is. Continue reading Kokoro Connect 07 — Sin, the Church and Judgement
Kokoro Connect 06 — The Epistles of Paul: Animated Edition
After last week’s episode, I was already prepared to look at this episode through the language of Christianity. It’s surprisingly easy to do: Kokoro Connect’s message mirrors Paul’s epistles remarkably closely.

Kokoro Connect 05 — To Conquer Death, You Only Have to Die
In the latest episode of Kokoro Connect, Iori dies. Wait, you may say, she didn’t really die! But I would have to disagree.
My understanding of this episode comes through the language of Christianity, since that is the language I am familiar with (most of this post’s ideas were gleaned from Richard Beck’s series on the Slavery of Death, which I can’t recommend enough if you’re interested). I believe these ideas are fairly universal, and I am certain that the creators of this episode would not use my language to describe things. But this is the language I use, so please bear with me and trust me when I say the connection to Kokoro Connect will soon become clear. Think of this interlude not as an exercise in religious indoctrination, but simply as a lesson in vocabulary. Continue reading Kokoro Connect 05 — To Conquer Death, You Only Have to Die
