Knight’s & Magic — First Impressions

Come on Japan. Learn how to use a fucking apostrophe.

Really good first episode. It may have some questionable aspects, but everything about this just radiated enthusiasm. The main character’s love for robots is very apparent and becomes contagious. It definitely is a narou story, but it looks set to show that not all narou stories have to be about assholes living out empowerment fantasies which involve being dicks to others.

I love the pacing as well: I haven’t read the web novel for this one, but if it’s anything like the other ones I read, this episode probably covered the same material in about a tenth of the time of the web novel.

I’m looking forward to seeing the rest.

  1. Ep 1 breezed through Vol 1’s 1st half, which is mostly character intros and worldbuilding. The mecha action starts in Vol 1 ‘s 2nd half, and snowballs from there. Likely the anime wanted to get the slowpaced intro done with to start getting into the robot fun.
Source author can be called a robo-otaku, since his Twitter profile says he loves “works with giant robots, and will live and die for mecha”.

    1. Interestingly, the third episode which I just watched was probably the slowest with very little mecha action. I do love the main character and how much of a robot otaku he is though. The scene where the king asked why he wanted to build robots and when he said it’s his hobby was pretty great.

      1. Some parts of the LN’s plot are dedicated to mecha R&D and upgrading, courtesy of main character’s ideas. Ep 3 is just the 1st major upgrade.
Don’t worry, there’ll still be enough robot action going on in later arcs.
If the plot goes far enough, you’ll get to see his improvements being practically used in the battlefield.

  2. A mecha otaku is reincarnated into another world as Ernesti Echevalier (Eru). In this world exist huge humanoid weapons known as Silhouette Knights. Dreaming of piloting those robots, Eru will aim to become Knight Runner, pilot of Silhoutte Knight.
