Kowloon Generic Romance Review — B+

People continue to live in a Kowloon Walled City which no longer exists.

I have mixed feelings about this one. There is so much it did a great job at. The nostalgic atmosphere, the sense of place, the characterizations and the imagery. It’s a poetic and beautiful show.

My hesitation keeping me from a full-throated endorsement is that the sci-fi elements did not make much sense. Probably best not to think about it much. But hard not to when it’s such a key element of the story.

  • Storytelling – B – Some weaknesses but mostly worked.
  • Voice – A – Unique pacing and way of storytelling.
  • Characters – A – True to themselves.
  • Attention Grab – B – Kept my interest.
  • Production – A – Looks great. Really captures Hong Kong.
  • Overall – B+

Recommendations – Hope I have a chance to go back to Hong Kong someday.
