Call of the Night Review — A-

An immortal vampire hangs out with a middle schooler.

I loved this show. I think it’s even better than Dagashi Kashi (which I already loved, same author). Explores some really interesting and somewhat dark topics (especially the final arc!!!! loved it) and has a great general sense of wandering around the city at night.

I do feel it could have been a touch more focused. Especially with how the two other human main characters hardly showed up in the second season. I can only assume the manga’s a partial adaptation and they picked an ending point.

I had gotten sick of SHAFT, but they managed to tone it down enough that their style added rather than detracted.

  • Storytelling – A – Fantastic.
  • Voice – A – Love it.
  • Characters – A – Even the male lead is pretty good.
  • Attention Grab – A – Kept my enthusiasm.
  • Production – A – Looks great.
  • Overall – A-
