Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works 17 – 18 — Archer is the Hero we Needed

Yeah, yeah, I know, Archer is kind of a dick. He’s betrayed them, kidnapped Rin, and trying to murder Shirou.

But… who can blame him? Who on Earth doesn’t want to murder Shirou?! Archer is a true hero and I support him wholeheartedly in this endeavor to kill Shirou. A much more worthwhile goal than gaining the Holy Grail. If Archer succeeds, he would truly make the world a better place.

Archer’s right. He recognizes the limits of the “Ganbatte!” philosophy. Ganbatteing won’t solve all your problems. And when Shirou fails it isn’t because he didn’t ganbatte enough. It’s because he’s a bloody idiot.

Archer also succinctly presents my main complaint about Fate / Zero. All that hours and hour sof Saber and whatshisface chivalrying it up. I wanted to kill them too. Thank goodness we have a hero like Archer who refuses to put up with that crap.

The only character flaw I can find in Archer is that his Engrish is pretty bad.

Further Thoughts

The fight with Caster and Sensei was pretty great. Especially Rin’s secret plan of beating the most powerful mage in the world with karate. Lol.

Sensei is pretty cool. Not quite as cool as Lancer but he’s getting there.

  1. Archer >>>>>>>> Shiro
Who else is self-aware enough to look at their past self and think, “Yeah, should probably just nip that right in the bud.”

  2. “Archer is a true hero and I support him wholeheartedly in this endeavor to kill Shirou. A much more worthwhile goal than gaining the Holy Grail.”

But what if you’re gaining the Holy Grail in order to wish for it to kill Shirou?

And considering that the VN has, like, 6-7 good endings and 40+ bad endings, I’d say the writer thought killing Shirou was the main appeal there too…

    1. Well… if you’re getting the Holy Grail to kill Shirou, go for it!

That’s true, I suspect the bad ends must be the best part of the VN.
