Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works — First Impressions

So much better than the first adaptation.

It looks like they’ve gotten the dull initial exposition out of the way in the first episode, without making itΒ too dull either. I was a bit bored in the first, but that was mainly because I already knew what was going on. Also, watching Prism Ilya recently has kind of ruined Rin’s character for me…

Still, off to a pretty good start. The fights certainly look amazing at least. It should also be interesting seeing everything from Rin’s perspective, assuming they continue in that vein.

I’m a big fan of Fate / Stay Night and Type Moon in general, but I doubt I’ll blog this. When you already know what’s going to happen it just doesn’t have the same appeal.

  1. We are in this for the cool fight scenes. πŸ˜€
That UBW movie was too short. Saber and Sasaki Kojirou’s ends so fast, making him looks like a pushover, while in fact, he’s not. His secret skill Tsubame Gaeshi is supposed to be a sure kill technique, the only reason he’s lost is because his sword bent from clashing too many times with Excalibur, prior to their final exchange.

    1. Not the only reason… he was doomed from the get go.

Not enough mana, broken terrain, sure broken sword too (as if that makes sense with mana swords… but that whole not enough mana I suppose).

If he had a real master, he’d be a serious threat, but he did not and was not except to pay tribute to the honor of characters.

Yeah, I liked the Prisma Ilya Rin better too. The serious-face one is less amusing, but not without her charms.

Execution matters though we’ve seen the plot and elements before– and that is great here… so I look forward to it πŸ™‚

      1. Oh, I clearly didn’t say that right, I actually like the serious Rin better. πŸ™‚ Although Prisma Ilya Rin is hilarious…

        1. Well, Illya and Rin in Prisma Illya are basically what Illya and Rin would be like without such a screwed up childhood. So, it’s not surprising that this Rin would be more dour than her Prisma Illya counterpart, and this Illya… yeah….

  2. The problem with this is that Prisma-Illya-Rin’s design is far more superior :[

They still are same character with same reactions to things(Which will be all the more highlighted as this goes on), but ufotable-Rin sometimes looks utterly weird and unlike, well, Rin.

  3. > It should also be interesting seeing everything from Rin’s perspective, assuming they continue in that vein.

It won’t. Ufotable basically copied the VN where the prologue was from Rin’s perspective. Prologue became eps. 0, not eps. 1. First episode will be back to Shirou.

Kinda fitting, I guess, considering this will be Rin’s route and such, to have us see a glimpse of her character.

  4. I am very impressed by the production quality. It was better than most movies! I wonder if they will keep up these standards.

As I haven’t seen F/SN (only Zero) im pretty much looking forward to this. (And I’m happy that I didn’t watch Prisma Ilya and still can enjoy Rin’s character!)

    1. Ooh, if you’ve never seen anything before, you are in for a treat! Although wait until the movies for what I think is the best part πŸ™
