It’s basically the original but made with modern technology. From what I recall, it is much better made. Anime has definitely gotten better in the past 18 years.

The original was okay, just not really my thing. Some people loved it and I’m sure they’ll love this too. But I’m trying to cut down on my anime watching, so I’ll pass.
