Humanity has Declined 04 — Electricity

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on.

This episode centered around the return of electricity. It is interesting to see a world where electricity is such a novelty and a scarce resource, but they didn’t exploit this as much as they could have. A few things to note:

  • The fairies are afraid of electricity. I guess their brains turn to mush if they have the opportunity to watch TV?
  • I’m guessing that Pion-san is an AI (perhaps in a video game of some sort) based on how she talks about her memory leaks and her memory of a long time ago.

  • The slime things seem attracted to electricity, as we saw when one blocked the power outlet. I wonder if this is part of the city’s defense against EM waves. Although if this is the case, why did the city have so much electronics in the first place? If the city’s residents are hikkikimoris, as the show seemed to hint, why would they be blocking themselves from electricity? They should be drowning in the stuff.
  • There’s a lot of potential in the idea of exploring an abandoned city from the future, but unfortunately, there wasn’t much of interest. Just plain corridors, a park, and a room in a hospital.

Otherwise, I don’t have much to say, since this episode was mostly setup for next week’s episode. Let’s hope it delivers. I’m doubtful though. I can’t really see where they’re going with this. I sincerely hope it isn’t just what happens to a city of shut-ins. This latest episode was not the most engrossing.

  1. “If the city’s residents are hikkikimoris, as the show seemed to hint, why would they be blocking themselves from electricity? They should be drowning in the stuff.”

Maybe it refers to this denpa thing as explained in detail by bitmap at Altair & Vega: http://bit.ly/LYstBt . As I understood the idea is that EM (or some other ) waves mess w/ your brain and you start doing weird things (like Erio in Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko). The term “denpa” was referred to quite often in this ep.

The rest of this ep. I didn’t understand either. But I just love Watashi’s expressions and comments so I don’t care that much.

    1. Hm, perhaps the idea of electromagnetic wave being crazy is part of it. If that’s the case, though, I still don’t get what the point of what they’re trying to say is. Oh well, hopefully things will make more sense next week.

  2. Fairies, robot dogs, slime and “robot catgirls” THIS SERIES HAS EVERYTHING! They are missing magical girls and giant robots, but this was a fun episode because it gave us hints about the fairies like they can transform their bodies into objects and they hate electricity? I want more stuff with the catgirl she seems to be a great character and Y! I liked her <3

    1. Can’t argue that the show does have a bit of everything. I kind of wish it would just pick something and focus on that though.
