An average high school student travels back in time to the Sengoku era. Fortunately, he paid attention in class played lots of video games!
I thought this would be yet another pointless show about cute girls, loosely based on the Sengoku Era. Well, it is. But I enjoyed it nevertheless.
It has a bit of spark that other shows have lacked. First of all, our main character is not a wuss. He’s actually quite courageous, and he actually does things. He isn’t just trying to get home, he’s actually trying to play with the hand fate has dealt him and survive given his new circumstances.
Furthermore, the show actually seems to be somewhat faithful to history. The show is at least trying to follow historical events, as best I can tell (I don’t know much about this era, though, so please correct me if I’m wrong). In shows like Sengoku Otome and Sengoku Collection, pretty much the only part taken from history is the characters’ names. But I feel like I might actually learn a thing or two from Oda Nobuna.
It also helps that the show looks pretty. And we got the inevitable cellphone jokes out of the way in the first couple minutes.
I just feel sad that its being made by the guys who brought us kaiba, kaiji, monster and loads of good stuff. That crap marvel tie up that did started the decline of madhouse.
Yeah… I mean, this isn’t bad, but I don’t think it’s going to be anywhere near the level of any of those shows.
Thanks to your praise I finally watched the first ep. I agree, it wasn’t half bad. After the first ep. I particularly liked the artistic style around 16:45.: bit.ly/MpR7Mx . I still prefer Sengoku Otome, though. It looked better imo and it the character from the future was not a guy but a cute girl.
If you want to learn about Sengoku era you should definitely give Hyouge Mono a try. It’s not only about aesthetics but equally about politics. I can’t prais this show enough (as far as it has been subbed, at least).
Glad you gave it a try. I have been watching Hyouge Mono. Still waiting for more episodes to be subbed… :/
