Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji — First Impressions

A chronic liar meets a big jerk. They fall in love.

I have never really understood shoujo romances. In shounen romances, the boy always falls in love with some perfect girl. (Well, the author’s conception of a “perfect” girl, with which I would typically vehemently disagree, but…) On the other hand, in shoujo romances, the fantasy seems to be that the girl falls in love with the biggest asshole she can find.

I don’t get it.

I find shoujo romances like this one much more troubling than Cross Ange and Valvrave’s rape scenes.

Anyway, this is actually a slight improvement over most shoujo romances, since the girl is a liar and the guy is actively bullying her instead of taking a more passive approach to bullying her like he usually does.

In general, just not my thing, wake me up when Watashi ni XX Shinasai gets animated.

  1. There is all sorts of asshole female leads too in shounen romance. They are just called “tsundere”. But when shoujo does it, then its “troubling”.

    1. Tsunderes are assholes, but here being an asshole is seen as a good thing, and the girl implicitly agrees with what the guy is saying, that she should just shut up and be protected.
