Yoru no Yatterman: As you guys have probably figured out by now, my favorite theologian is William Stringfellow. And thematically, Yoru no Yatterman is basically an anime adaptation of his seminal work, An Ethic for Christians and Other Aliens in a Strange Land. The central question of the book is, “How can we live humanly in the midst of the Fall?” Based on the book of Revelation, Stringfellow introduces this as an essentially political question, as a conflict between the kingdom of god (Jerusalem) and the demonic principalities and powers (Babylon). Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: Welp, I sure didn’t see that one coming. So dumb. They’re going to have a hard time convincing me that this cheerful girl who makes every attempt to hide her suffering from all her friends wants to commit suicide and take him with her.

Also, Arima’s piano teacher threatened to murder a ten year old girl. And no one seemed to think this was strange…

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: Whoa. This week’s episode completely blew me away, especially coming from a series that has been largely nothing that great. I think this may be one of the extremely rare cases where I prefer childhood friend to the main girl. (Although piano girl is still best, obviously.) And childhood friend’s boyfriend was really fricking cool. She should totally dump the main character for her ex-boyfriend. I definitely would. Yoru no Yatterman continues to be one of the highlights of the season. The highlight I believe is the character development. In only a single episode, this show is able to make you more emotional attached to a character than most shows are able to do in multiple seasons. This week’s star was the tailor who is overly attached to his childhood friend. However, the whole childhood friend angle is much more interesting when said childhood friend has lost her marbles.
