The Week in Anime Winter 2015 #3 — Breaking Up

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: Whoa. This week’s episode completely blew me away, especially coming from a series that has been largely nothing that great. I think this may be one of the extremely rare cases where I prefer childhood friend to the main girl. (Although piano girl is still best, obviously.) And childhood friend’s boyfriend was really fricking cool. She should totally dump the main character for her ex-boyfriend. I definitely would. Someone who would break up with you like that is too awesome to break up with.

Tokyo Ghoul Root A: This show has lost its sense of purpose. The best part of this show was always the relationship between Ken and Touka and Ken’s inner growth. And now that Ken has left, they’re just focusing on the fights like some shounen battle manga. I don’t even know who the people that are fighting are anymore. This show really needs to hurry up and give some insight into what the hell Ken is thinking.

Death Parade: I undropped this and boy am I glad I did. I wasn’t particularly impressed by episode 2 (even if it did assuage some of my concerns about how cruel and judgmental the show was) but episodes 3 and 4 were both amazing. 3 was actually extremely sweet, which I was not expecting in the slightest. And 4 was harsh, similar to the first episode, but it was a message of hope rather than the despair and cruelty of the first episode. That hug made everything different.

The Rolling Girls: Still gorgeous yet pretty boring.

  1. I dunno, I’ve been loving Tokyo Ghoul. It turned a little shounenish for an episode or 2 but it’s picked up nicely since. Definitely one of my favorites along with Parasyte & Kuroko no Basuke this season.

Speaking of which, you should have kept up with Parasyte (or did you?), it got pretty good.

    1. The first six episodes were very shounenish but it’s picked up lately.

I am watching Parasyte! Enjoying it a lot.
