An infuriatingly indecisive boy pisses off everyone.

This manga is by the author of Yankee-kun and Megane-chan and Yamada and the Seven Witches, and capitalizes on exactly the same thing. I feel like all of these have translated much better as manga where you can read them faster— it drags a bit as an anime. The art is not as good and I oddly hate all the female characters’ lips in the anime.
It goes nowhere for most of the two seasons and ends with things unresolved. If you care just read the manga instead.
- Storytelling – C – Will they, won’t they…? For eternity
- Voice – C – Seen this story a million times. Which sometimes is fine.
- Characters – C – I truly despise both the main character and the purple girl. What is wrong with these people.
- Attention Grab – C – Finished it… somehow.
- Production – C – Looks okay.
- Overall – C
Recommendations – The rare case where I ship the (step-)sister, if only because she actually gets along with the dude.
My biggest problem with Cuckoos is the will they wont they without any real progress in them moving forward or any real change in the relationship between Nagi and Erika especially when Nagi continually keeps running after Hiro like a pathetic lost puppy…when he is supposed to be engaged to Erika even though neither has issues continually stating that yet he will have eyes for another…in Hiro who really has nothing appealing to her because her whole continuous thing is bloody annoying. Essentially the whole plot to me is about as useful as banging your head against a wall continually, painful with no real pay off except a headache to show for it. I mean I wouldn’t mind it if there had been any real progress between Nagi and Erika who I am guessing is meant to be endgame, but there really isn’t or if there is it is one of those one step forward and two or three steps back it’s why I dropped the manga awhile back and only could tolerate some of the anime.
