Fate Apocrypha Review — C

Famous people reimagined as hot girls and bishies kill each other with magic.

It was definitely one of the weaker entries of the Fate series. Fate always tended to have the problem of there being so many characters killing each other and dying so quickly that it really didn’t have time to invest in all of them. in Apocrypha this problem was exacerbated by the fact there are like twice as many people involved in the killing. I could barely keep track of everybody until around halfway through, when most of them were dead. Even then it was a struggle. Everybody gets their own little arc, and most of them are so short that they fall extremely flat. I can see how this could potentially work in something like a visual novel, but it clearly didn’t work here.

For example, I think one of the worst was the green haired archer. She seems like a nice person. Then some zombie children die (they were already dead, but they die again) and she spends the rest of the show going on a murderous rampage.  For several episodes. Like, dude. Chill. Similarly, the final conflict is some bullshit about using magic to turn everyone selfless so that the world can be saved. There is lots of philosophizing and arguing. As if anyone possibly gives a fuck… Honestly that’s probably the main problem. The characters all spend a lot of time talking. And it’s almost always about some philosophy or shit that no one cares about.

At least the girls and boys were cute… Also it was pretty well animated.
