Evil Ilya is best Ilay. So much better than that happy stuff in Fate Kaleid Whatever Ilya!
That battle scene was awesome. This show is really good when they don’t spend entire episodes on exposition.
Also, I like how there’s more of a focus on Rin. If I recall correctly, in the visual novel we were stuck with Shirou’s perspective, so we weren’t able to witness much of her battle with Berserker. Been a while since I played it though.
We also have the added perspective of Fate / Zero, which the creators are clearly taking advantage of. I’m pretty sure we didn’t know anything about the priest and Gilgamesh until much later in the original story.
It’s these slight changes which make the show feel worth watching even for those who are already familiar with the story. Plus, the improvements are all for the better, in my book.
After watching Fate / Zero, it puts Ilya into a different perspective too. Compared to all the adults in the last war, she really is just a stupid little girl. Why would she expose herself so early in the war? It’s much better to let the other people kill each other off first instead of leading them into forming an alliance.
Not much else to say, since this was mostly just an epic battle. Have some cute Rin pictures:

I agree (except for that Excalibur stuff Saber did… I mean seriously, she did not do that in the novel, it was Archer’s Caladabolg that injured Berserker. Here Berserker doesn’t even try to defend against the nuclear mach 10* sword… pffft)
* might not actually be mach 10, but its quite fast.
Oh really, I had seemed to recall that she hadn’t revealed her sword’s special powers until much later on in the visual novel, but I wasn’t sure. I wonder why they change it. Perhaps it’s because we aren’t seeing the first route in this adaptation, and they want to expose people to her noble phantasm so that things later on will come as less of a surprise.
You know Ilya is legal loli right? Some bullshit about being a homonculus that doesn’t physically age or something. She shows herself because Bersercar is the most badass guy around.
Actually… I’d completely forgotten that Ilya is legal loli. She certainly doesn’t act like it. 🙂
