Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojou — First Impression

The generic romantic comedy harem of the season. They just keep pumping out this crap, don’t they?

Our lead male, a talentless nobody, suddenly finds himself surrounded by beautiful women. One of them wants to marry him, one is a sexy older woman, and one has the mind of a five-year old and needs his help to dress. What an unfortunate man! I feel nothing but unending pity on his behalf. Why is life so unfair?

I really can’t stand the type of character like the lead female. What is it about brainless women who have regressed to their infancy that people find attractive? I don’t get it. Nor do I appreciate the male, who is unbelievably boring like most harem leads. If you’re going to make a crappy love story, can’t you at least put some effort into making characters who at least have some semblance of a personality and who could conceivably fall in love?

  1. Not a harem because:
    1) not every girl falls in love with this guy,the genki girl doesn’t,the the teacher doesn’t and any future female characters won’t (and also by the end there’s a 4 girls to 3 guys ratio that isn’t the usual 3/4/5/6 girls to 1 guy ratio found in harems)
2)He does finds himself boring (he says so in the episode) and isn’t satisfied with himself, the story is about him finding something he’s good at ,there’s *gasp* character development

    1. 1) Oh, really? I thought the genki girl was in love with him, but maybe not. That’s good, I’m a bit more optimistic now.
      2) *gasp* where is my fainting couch
