An ex-solider and a girl go hunting for treasure by searching for a map made of human skin while eating lots of strange foods and fighting against an angry old swordmaster and an army led by a guy missing a good chunk of his brain.
I’d read most of the manga before it started so I knew it was going to be awesome. And it honestly did not disappoint in the slightest. It’s been amazing. My only complaint is that it ended.
I think a lot of the appeal is that every single character is just fucking nuts. There is not a single character who I would consider “normal” or who I’d feel like I’ve seen before. Same with the plot. It is never boring. I never felt like any episode was much like any episode that came before it. It is totally off the rails. But in a way that’s completely understandable and has you sitting at the edge of your seat the entire time.
I also love the little doses of Ainu culture, especially with the hunting and the food preparation. It’s an educational anime too!
