Summertime Rendering Review — C+

Murder loop mystery that turned into a shounen battle show.

I wanted to like this but it really did not live up to my hopes. It started out like poor man’s Higurashi and ended up with just a long string of fight scenes. It was odd in that I didn’t like the middle and I hated the end but the middle had some good moments.

The show just doesn’t have enough guts. It introduces all these elements which make you think you’re going to get mindfucked. The shadows, the duplicates, the time travel… what is going on? And then all the answers are just incredibly disappointing.

They could have done so much crazy shit with this show. What if you murder yourself? What if you cheat on your girlfriend with herself? There was the potential for some good horror, the potential to explore some wild ideas. But all this show wanted to do was talk about the poor innocent girl who murdered everyone and show some half-assed puppy love story with a girl whose only clothes are a school swimsuit. And have people with magic powers fight each other with shotguns and giant hammers.

I’m a bit salty only because I did have some hope for it towards the middle.
