Romeo and Juliet, except they are in high school and it isn’t tragic at all and instead of rival families they are from rival countries, the “black doggies” and the “white kitties” (I’m not making this up).
I’m a sucker for love stories where they’re supposed to be enemies (who isn’t?) but this was pretty dull and forgettable. I kind of like the manga, but in hindsight, that’s mainly because I could skim through it much faster than when I’m watching an anime. That seems to happen quite frequently.
The main couple didn’t have any chemistry, the conflicts felt manufactured, and none of the characters had much depth. Probably the best was the guy who started out as a bully but turned out not to be a complete dick.
Overall, I wouldn’t bother unless you really want a romcom kick.
- Storytelling – D – Forgettable.
- Voice – C – Well, the names sure are memorable I guess.
- Characters – D – Nope.
- Attention Grab – C – I often did something else while watching.
- Production – C – Looks fine.
- Overall – D+
Recommendations – Romeo x Juliet (don’t actually watch this, but it was way more creative than kishuku gakkou no juliet)
