Narutaru Ch. 30 – 33 — A Fair Society

Ch. 30 Summary: Tatsumi and another guy from the organization buy flowers. The worker at the flower shop is revealed to be Satou’s boyfriend.

Ch. 31 Summary: Sudou discusses his desire to create a fair society in which the less capable people die. Fairly.

Ch. 32 Summary: Norio visits her friend with a baby and wishes he could have Takeo’s child.

Ch. 33 Summary: Takeo brings back a girl home to her parents… after he ensures he fulfills her duties as a prostitute.

Policing Sexuality

We’re back to some shorter chapters. Ch. 30 focuses on Tatsumi and his organization. Their organization has a figurehead who can be easily replaced if necessary and their organization continues. As the other person points out, it’s essentially a dictatorship. Tatsumi claims that this kind of organization is necessary to move forward, for the benefit of the people. It’s a de-humanizing, self-perpetuating organization, where people live in slavery to the principalities and powers, rather than the other way around. My Favorite Anime 2023 Addendum

I last updated my list of favorites in 2014. I always thought it was mostly a futile exercise: how am I supposed to compare things that are so radically different, aside from sharing a common medium? Every time you’d ask me you’d get a different answer.

So instead of updating the list, this time I’m just going to tell you all a bunch of my favorite anime since then. Most of them are in alphabetical order— but I did make an attempt at ranking the top 15. Enjoy! And please share what you think I left out!

Click the links for more details about each show.

ACCA
I don’t even know how to explain this. A corrupt cop eats bread and saves the country?? It is wild while having a relaxed tone, and some fascinating characters. I need to rewatch this.

Aho Girl
So stupid and so funny. Just a really well made comedy. Kanojo mo Kanojo by the same author was great too but Aho Girl had the perfect adaptation.

Akiba Maid War
It was when the main character was tied to a chair, being drowned by a rival maid in a tub of tomato juice, when her rival threw a live goat at her, that I truly fell in love with Akiba Maid Wars. Continue reading My Favorite Anime 2023 Addendum

Narutaru Ch. 29 — The Shit Hits the Fan

I actually wrote these posts a while ago, but hadn’t finished them, mostly back in 2015. My thoughts have changed somewhat but I still wanted to publish these. I’ve scheduled one a week until the end! You can catch up on the older posts here.

Ch. 28 Summary: Shiina’s friend Hiroko and Akira are both bullied. Akira tries to get a boy who likes her at school to impregnate her. Hiroko uses her dragon child to murder her parents and bullies, then takes Shiina’s father hostage in an apparent attempt to get Shiina to kill her. Akira stabs her father.

This chapter takes up an entire volume. And it is some nasty, nasty stuff. Downright brutal. The earlier chapters pale in comparison. It was this chapter when I completely fell in love with the series the first time I read it.

Two Paths to Darkness

I believe that this chapter is meant to establish a contrast between Hiroko and Akira. The scene where the two are sitting in front of Shiina’s doorstep waiting for her to come home stood out in particular:

Both are bullied and alone. Continue reading Narutaru Ch. 29 — The Shit Hits the Fan

Kaiseki Anime Ep. 117 — The Questionable Anime

Sadly, Marina isn’t watching Inukai-san’s Dog so we had to leave that one out. And Onii-chan wa Oshimai is actually too wholesome for this episode.
