Prince of Stride: Alternative — First Impressions

A high school club does Parkour races.

First episode was ok. It kind of reminded me of Yowamushi Pedal in how it piqued my interest. But this always leads me to believe that after a few episodes I’ll lose interest, just like Yowamushi Pedal. I tend to dislike sports series in general.

This one is based on a made-up sport, and the creators don’t seem to be all that concerned about realism here. That could lead to some interesting action, but I doubt it. I’m sure we’re just going to hear about teamwork, teamwork, teamwork the whole time. They inserted some complicated relay handoff procedure involving a girl on a microphone just to emphasize teamwork, presumably.

So, dropped, but if you like sports shows give it a try.

  1. Predictably, KWoo loves the idea of stride since he’s a big fan of parkour. Also, the art reminds me of Tsuritama, though I don’t see any shared staff.

  2. I don’t understand why people have been so generous towards this show….I found it borderline unwatchable. Derivative story, obnoxious characters, hideously ugly animation….this made me nostalgic for shows I dropped.

    1. In my own case, I find all sports shows unwatchable and derivative. Don’t know how people can watch them… But some people do like them, so I wanted to acknowledge that compared to its kin I thought the first episode was pretty good.
