Overlord IV Review — B-

Our favorite evil undead overlord is back.

It feels like this is finally going somewhere again. I enjoyed the first season (mainly for the main character and him being a pretty nice guy despite being the evil overlord) but then the second and third season lost focus and drifted off into these random side stories. Especially the second season with the lizard people. But it feels like we are finally back on track with the main plot.

I do think it could have done a better job with the princess’ story— I vaguely remembered she was insane from the previous seasons, but it could have done much more to add some tension there and ham things up to be more entertaining. As it is you could have easily forgotten all about what she was up to until the last episode. A bunch of wasted potential there.

My other issue is that the main character is getting much less interesting. At the start much of the entertainment from the show came from his inner tension over trying to do the right thing while maintaining his evil overlord persona. Now it feels like he’s just gone over to evil and has no regrets.

  • Storytelling – B – Decent but room for improvement.
  • Voice – B – Still a unique premise despite all the isekai now.
  • Characters – C – Main guy is losing a lot of what first interested me.
  • Attention Grab – B – Kept my interest.
  • Production – B – Looks fine.
  • Overall – B-
