B: The Beginning Review — C+

The most chuuni police thriller ever made.

It was extremely chuuni. Lots of posing and looking cool, spouting nonsense while looking cool. The hero is an older gentleman with a beard and glasses who can solve any mystery just by thinking about it. He read the magical multi-dimensional tablet written by aliens that no one else could decipher which predicts the future when he was five years old. Oh, and there’s also a second hero who is literally a FALLEN ANGEL. And the villains are a necrophiliac and a troupe of clowns that rules the world and commits random murders from their SPACE ZEPPELIN. (I assure you, I am not making this up.)

But don’t take this the wrong way. The chuuni is the series main point of charm, after all. It was super corny and I enjoyed it and ate it all up.

I think the series’ main flaw is that there are two halves of the story (the police half and the fallen angel half) and they never really fit together. Some of the characters overlap, but that’s about it. Additionally, the story can be awfully hard to follow. There’s a lot going on. I definitely missed some things. Or, I assume I missed some things, but perhaps they were actually missing. For example, the villains’ motivations were all spectacularly weak. I thought I was missing something, but probably they were actually that dumb. Another aspect of the show which fell completely flat was the fallen angel’s “romance”. There is a girl in the clown troupes who is a crazy murderer. But then they meet and it turns out she was his girlfriend when they were six years old. And they were married in their previous lives or some shit like that, I don’t know. But then just from meeting she immediately transforms from crazy tattooed clown murderer to pure and innocent damsel in distress.

So, yeah. I liked it.  But… just know what you’re getting into.

Seems pretty obvious (just look at the title) this is a setup for something else, too.
