An alien comes to Earth with amazing presents and wisdom.
While I appreciate that Seikaisuru Kado took a fairly unique approach to the alien encounter theme, it wasn’t a very good show. We can divide Seikaisuru Kado into two halves:
- The Boring Half
- The Stupid Half
The first half consisted of people sitting around a table and being impressed by the alien while spouting loads of bullshit as we did slow pans over a cube. The second half was almost as boring, but had a few especially stupid twists which ruined any remaining respect I had for the show. In fairness I thought it was fairly dumb from near the start, but the first half was reasonable enough that it allowed me to suspend my judgement. But the one twist in the middle was too much.
And then the ending… my god. This was one of the dumbest endings I’ve ever seen in anime. And I’ve seen many dumb endings. (Warning: spoilers in the next paragraph.)
It at least attempts to be intelligent, but the whole thing comes across similarly to Mahouka where everyone is worshiping the main character for being the greatest negotiator ever. At the start of the show, he negotiates with another negotiator representing the other side. She is presented as the only person in Japan who even approaches his level at negotiating. She just kind of agrees with everything he says and later she has his babies and is revealed to actually be an alien. Oh and the prime minister hands this guy the power to make binding decisions on behalf of the entire country. I’m not making this shit up.
The show is also very nationalistic (which I don’t count against it).
I’m still unable to get over how dumb that ending was.
- Storytelling – F – A disaster.
- Voice – B – Like the idea, fairly unique.
- Characters – F – No one but the main three have much impact. And none of those three have much of a personality.
- Attention Grab – D – First half was boring, second half had my full attention but not in a good way.
- Production – C – CG but I thought it looked decent.
- Overall – D+
