Thermae Romae — First Impression

A Roman bath architect travels through the drain into the future and studies a Japanese public bath.

This was… interesting, to say the least. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it all that funny. These kind of things just seem really forced to me. Having a Roman build a Japanese style bathhouse? Daily Lives of High School Boys — First Impression

This was hilarious. Not quite Milky Holmes level, but still pretty funny.

At first I was concerned with the bread in the mouth and the Gundams that this would all be Otaku referential humor, but it’s not. The best comparison I can think of is that the sense of humor is quite similar to Gintama. The brown haired kid even talks exactly like Gintoki (they have the same voice actor).

Ano Natsu de Matteru — First Impression

This is another romantic comedy by the creator of Please Teacher! and Please Twins! And it’s much along the same lines.

These shows aren’t anything amazing, as, well, they are romantic comedies, after all. But still, they’re definitely some of the most solid romantic comedies. They know what they want to do, and do it well. Set up some romance, toss in a bit of drama, a hint of overcoming limitations, and a touch of nostalgia, and we’re good to go.
