Mirai Nikki 16 — Daddy Issues

Yukiteru’s father is pretty much a failure as a human being (I guess we know where Yukiteru inherits it from) but he is easy to sympathize with. If my enormous debt would be cancelled in exchange for breaking my son’s cellphone, I would do it too. He doesn’t seem to be aware of the fact that Yukki will die.

Mirai Nikki 15 — A Battle of Love

Well, we knew from the face he’s making that things wouldn’t turn out well.

This was one of my favorite episodes so far. I thought it portrayed the relationship between Yukkiteru and Yuno particularly well. I loved Yuno’s entrance especially. They’re all wondering who could have ruined their plan, when Yuno walks out like a gladiator entering the pit. I especially loved her reaction to Yuuki saying her name. Mirai Nikki 14 — I Used to be a Worthless Side Character… Then I Took an Arrow to the Knee

And nothing changed.

But I really did like this scene with Kousaka. He comes out filled with excitement and confidence, only to have Yuno not remember him at all. It was a good burst of humor in the midst of all the tension to make the viewer lower their guard. Then Akise and Mao are freed from the gas chamber easily, and it looks like everything will go off without a hitch. That lull is the opportunity for Yuno to pull out a crossbow, shoot Kousaka, and shock the audience once again. The lesson is, to get the biggest shock value, you need to keep luring the viewer back into a false sense of security. Constant surprise after surprise is not nearly as effective.
