A talking bird moves in with a girl who lives in a mochi shop.
I like it. It’s basically K-On with a touch of Nichijou and a dash of Hyouka. It has the cute girls doing cute things aspect (and daaaamn is she cute), but then it has that hilarious bird and the potential romance. The animation is beautiful, of course, and very colorful as well. It has a great soundtrack too, particularly the opening segment. The lead character is overly cheerful but not dumb, as usually seems to happen.
This is now the show I’m looking forward to most this season.
I agree! Everything about it is adorable. The colours are vibrant and the jokes are hilarious! Especially if you’ve got a talking bird who struts like he’s top-shit!
It feels like another K-On but in an alternative dimension and I’m loving it a lot. Also, I must ask… is the flower shop…lady(?) a trap? She/he is being voiced by Ono Daisuke so… xD
I am not sure if he can be called a trap, when he’s not cute/beautiful at all, also has husky male voice.
🙂
As long as, the term ‘trap’ was born as internet term because the crossdresser is such a pro so that people think that he’s really female.
I mean “as long as I know”
So… a crossdresser? xD
The bird is great. I’m looking forward to the next episode.
The person in the flower shop definitely seems to have a male voice.
I’m still not sure what to make of this show yet (mostly because they are packing so many character introduction into the first episode, my impression for each of them is thinned out rather badly.) That, and the bird is really rubbing me the wrong way. But this is KyoAni, first impression never serves them justice, so we’ll see where they’d like to go with this. If there’s one thing that I know I’m 100% getting from them, it’s quality control.
I love the bird. 🙂 And yeah, I had doubts for both Nichijou, Chuuni and Hyouka at the start, but I wasn’t disappointed for any. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt.
I’ve read a lot of mixed opinions on this, and have been unsure as to whether or not I’ll give it a shot. However, given your seal of approval, I may have to actually take the time to check it out.
*Seal* of approval!
Tamako Market was the only new series which sucked me in right from the start (apart from Osaka Okan 😉 ). The character design and the BGM are very K-ON style imo but it is quite entertaining and the girls are cute. Having watched until ep. 4 by now I can say that I also appreciate the sweetness which derives from the fact that Tamako and An (-ko) actually lead quite a hard life having to work a lot besides school.
As a downside I hate that annoying bird! Also, the idealization of “traditional” Japanese family/ shop life w/ all these quirky neighbors and a common bath is a tad obtrusive at times. Also, I think the series has too much action. It may not be possible in 12 episodes but what really distinguished K-ON imo was that there were lots of episodes were almost nothing happened at all. These were the ones which created the relaxed feeling of K-ON. Tamako Market seems to be hurrying from one festival to the next.
But enough complaints, this is currently my favorite from the new series!
I think the bird’s kind of funny, he doesn’t bother me much.
I actually like the more traditional family / shop life. Somehow it’s not traditional at all in anime, where it’s become tradition for kids to live without any adults in their life (like Minami-ke). The lack of parts without action is exactly like I prefer this over K-On. But I hated Aria, so that’s not too surprising.
