The Metamorphosis — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #4

There are many reasons that moments in anime can stick with us. Some elevate our minds to new heights. Some make us weep. Others make us laugh.

And some moments leave our mouths hanging open in stunned disbelief. These moments are just as memorable, if not more so, than the best scenes in anime. This year had its fair share of jaw droppers.

The biggest jaw dropper this year, by far, was the ending to No. 6. You can find all the juicy details here. But to summarize, Safu becomes a Native American god, Elyurias. Elyurias unleashes killer bees to destroy No. 6. But he then overhears Shion talking about how No. 6 and the outside world could coexist.

Elyurias changes his mind and decides not to destroy No. 6. The deadly bees turn into a tornado of rainbow LOVE and destroy No. 6’s walls instead. Continue reading The Metamorphosis — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #4

The Rape of Akarin — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #3

Yuruyuri was a guilty pleasure of mine this year. It combines the innocence and fun of K-On with lust and yuri.

My favorite moment from the series was Chinatsu’s attempt to kiss Akarin. We always knew Chinatsu was somewhat twisted, but we never expected her to become a rapist.

The scene begins with Akarin and Chinatsu talking. Chinatsu wants to do “this and that” to Yui. Akarin is afraid. Very afraid. Continue reading The Rape of Akarin — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #3

The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #2

Some of the best moments in anime are epic, unforgettable changes which will leave nothing the same ever again. Others are what seem like small details: minor, perhaps insignificant, but together they make up the crux of the story. Today’s moment is one of these times from Fate / Zero. It’s insignificant in the grand scheme of things, perhaps, but still unforgettable.

Rider and Waver are sitting and watching TV at home, while Rider gathers data for his plan to conquer the world. Bill Clinton’s face appears on TV, and Rider says that Clinton “might prove to be a more formidable opponent than even Darius III.”

Compared to all of the exciting action sequences in Fate / Zero, this moment may seem like an odd choice. But it was devastatingly effective. From this one line, I began laughing uproariously, was led to realize Rider’s disconnect from the modern world, and my imagination began to explode with visions of what this battle would look like. Does anyone have any links to some fan fiction?

(Also, for those who don’t get the title: have fun.)

Le Morte d’Mami — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #1

Apparently it’s a tradition among anime blogs to share your favorite moments from the past year’s anime over twelve days, from December 14th to December 25th. As everyone knows, I am a firm upholder of long-held, sacred traditions such as this. But I also believe in an even more ancient tradition, known as the “calendar.” So I’m going with a slightly different title than everyone else. But the spirit is the same. So let’s begin.

We’ll start with a rather obvious choice: Mami’s death from Madoka. Continue reading Le Morte d’Mami — Eleven Days of Advent and One Day of Christmas #1
