A boy and his harem create a visual novel.
After watching Episode 0, I thought this anime was going to be a crappy combination Bakemonogatari ripoff and softcore porn. Fortunately Episode 0 was nothing like the rest of the series, which was actually pretty decent.
A group of friends builds a visual novel together, while the haremettes all take their turns trying to hit on the male lead. That doesn’t sound too great (and honestly, it’s not) but the writing’s sense of humor and wit save it. It helps that unlike usual, the haremettes aren’t all bestest best friends, but spend the majority of the show fighting among themselves.
The main character is kind of hilarious. He’s simultaneously colossally arrogant and hopelessly incompetent. He likes to talk big to his haremettes, who are all geniuses in their respective fields, while he is some nobody. And somehow they are all madly in love with him. Wait, I’m failing at making this sound good. But it’s funny since everyone (himself included) is aware of it. The show also tends to make fun of itself. And it helps that there’s one haremette who is also completely normal and is the only one who ruthlessly and deservedly trash talks the main character.
- Storytelling – C – Decent sense of humor.
- Voice – D – Pretty generic.
- Characters – C – I like the main character and Kato a bunch. Cousin is obnoxious, other two are meh.
- Attention Grab – C – Neither boring nor exciting.
- Production – B – Looks fine.
- Overall – C
