2011: A Year in Review

It’s nice to look back occasionally and look at the previous year. How was 2011 in terms of anime?

Most Pleasant Surprise

Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai
After the first episode’s panty flash from a little girl, I dropped the show and didn’t finish the episode. A few weeks later, I decided to give it another shot, and was pleasantly surprised. It’s setup with the “three” main characters gives a unique and much needed twist to the harem genre. Its jokes can be fairly witty, and the characters are not your straight-up harem tropes. And it’s pretty fun trying to figure out what’s going on. Continue reading 2011: A Year in Review →

A Seasonal Review: Fall 2011

Same drill as last time.

I’ve loosely ranked the season’s shows from worst to best (rough guide: A=awesome, B+=great, B-=good, C=decent, D=bad, F=fail). The numbers in parentheses are how I ranked that series’ first episode at the start of the season. Let’s see how much things have changed.

Fallen Behind: The iDOLM@STER, Gintama’

Nurarihyon no Mago Sennen Makyou Review — C-

Nura Rikuo continues his adventure as leader of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, this time going to Kyoto to take on the Nue.

This is a continuation of the first series, and to be honest, I liked the first season better. This season falls into the traps that most shounen fighting shows seem to: endless training arcs and fights. The majority of the season was a big training arc until they reached Kyoto, at which point it became an endless battle. Continue reading Nurarihyon no Mago Sennen Makyou Review — C- →

Rinne no Lagrange — First Impression

Xebec, keepin’ it classy, as always. This skirt was pulled off multiple times from the bodies of multiple people in one day.

The episode starts off with a girl, Madoka, staring at the ocean, saying “I hope we can be happy like this forever.” As soon as she says that, she sees a drowning boy, pulls her skirt down, and goes to rescue him. We never see the boy again. He exists only as an excuse for the girl to come to school in her swimsuit. Continue reading Rinne no Lagrange — First Impression →
