Houseki no Kuni Review — A

Anthropomorphized gem stones fight Buddhist creatures.

It was amazing. I told you it would be.

It’s great for all the same reasons I liked the manga. And, let’s just say, it didn’t even end up getting to the best parts of the manga.

But also, the anime adaptation itself was superb. It perfectly captures the humor of the manga, as well as the sense of solitude and loneliness. And the CG was perfect. It may have helped that the characters were not exactly human so they had a bit more freedom with how to portray them. But the CG worked out great. The facial expressions were better than any anime CG I’ve seen before.

Hope this gets a second season…
