Summer 2014 — First Impressions

It’s a pretty strong season! I’m enjoying the top ten quite a bit, and the next six to an extent as well.

Ongoing Series / Sequels: Captain Earth, Fate Kaleid Liner / Prisma Ilya 2wei!Free! Eternal Summer, Haikyuu!!, Hunter X Hunter, JoJo S2, Kuroshitsuji, Mahouka, Monogatari Series Second Season (that’s actually third season) Second Season, Re: _Hamatora, Sengoku Basara: Judge End, Space Dandy, Sword Art Online II

Shorts: Ai Mai Mi, Gundam-san, Himegoto, Shin Strange+, Yama no Susume S2

26. Momo Kyun Sword
Momotaro grows giant peaches on her chest.

25. Locodol
Boring idol show.

24. Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance
Boring, completely pointless fanservice show of the season.

23. Shounen Hollywood
Bishies. Don’t even remember watching this. Must have sucked.

22. DRAMAtical Murder
I don’t even know what this is about.

21. Ao Haru Ride
Can’t stand most shoujo romances, this one’s no different.

20. Majimoji Rurumo
Meh. Decent, mildly boring fanservice show of the season.

19. Nobunaga Concerto
We’ve been here before.

18. Sailor Moon: Crystal
Doesn’t air often enough.

17. Bakumatsu Rock
Bishies rock the shogunate. Meh.

16. Jinsei
This one’s been growing on me. Characters are really shallow though.

15. Glasslip
True Tears redux, confusing version.

14. Rail Wars!
Meh. Decent, mildly entertaining fanservice show of the season.

Not a BL fan, but I enjoyed this despite myself.

12. Argevollen
Not the best mecha show, but beggars can’t be choosers.

11. Persona 4 The Golden Animation
Not sure why they need a repeat, but so far it isn’t repetitive like I fear it would be.

10. Akame ga Kill!
I’m in it for the shipping.

9. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
Some of the jokes are funny. Others are less so, but it keeps my interest.

8. Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!?
The second half of the first episode was entertaining. Doubt they’ll keep it up, but…

7. Hanayamata

Second best comedy this season, which also has some good serious moments.

Amazing first episode. Slowed down a bit in the second episode but should pick up.

  1. I read 20 chapters of Akame ga Kill recently. It’s a story which is certainly better as a manga. I am looking forward to see the Ice General in anime form, though. 🙂
Ship. Ship. Ditch that Akame girl already.

  2. Great list, most people I know seem to have the same top 3 though -Aldnoah, Ghoul and Zakyou- and everything else is just fill. Sure enough those 3 are the ones I’m always looking forward to every week as well. Argevollen is a bit…bland at the moment, doubt it’ll pick up but as you mentioned beggars can’t be choosers.

Just curious, where would you fit you favourite show Sword Art Online 2 into that list if you had to :P?

    1. I’m always looking forward to those three as well as Sabagebu. I’ve been really impressed by that one so far.

SAO would fit in at number 10, right before Akame ga Kill. It’s actually been pretty decent this season.

  3. Sorry for this late comment as the season is already half over! I’m watching only Zankyou no Terror, Hanayamata, Sabagebu, Glasslip, Bakaramon and Sailor Moon Crystal but I’m quite enoying these! (For my impressions please refer to the comments sections of the individual reviews.)
